Walgreens will offer same-day delivery across Illinois through a partnership with Instacart, with plans to bring the service to nearly 8,000 stores nationwide in the coming weeks. Customers can place their orders at www.instacart.com/walgreens, or through the Walgreens storefront in the Instacart mobile app.
Shoppers will gain access to over-the-counter medications, health and wellness, beauty and personal care, household essentials and convenience products, with delivery windows as short as one hour. The number of items available through the service will grow in the coming months.
“Convenience is at the core of what we do and Walgreens is thrilled to be partnering with Instacart to bring customers a simple and trusted same-day delivery option for the products they need right to their door,” said Stefanie Kruse, VP, Digital Commerce and Omnichannel at Walgreens in a statement. “This collaboration builds upon several other recent steps in our digital transformation to deliver health expertise to customers in new channels, which is timely given shifts in customer needs during the pandemic.”
Walgreens is one of multiple retailers that have partnered with Instacart to improve their delivery capabilities in recent months. Other major new partnerships include:
- Family Dollar added same-day delivery at 6,000 stores nationwide, up from a 250-store pilot;
- DICK’S Sporting Goods launched the service at more than 150 stores in Connecticut, Delaware, Georgia, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Washington, D.C.;
- Best Buy’s partnership with Instacart coincided with the launch of the Certified Delivery feature, offering a broader selection of high-value items not previously available for same-day delivery; and
- Bed Bath & Beyond launched same-day delivery through both Instacart and Shipt in late September 2020 to keep up with heavy holiday demand.
