Michaels is the first arts and crafts retailer to join Instacart Marketplace with the launch of a new pilot program to test out same-day delivery services from nearly 100 Michaels stores across Chicago, Dallas and Washington, D.C.
Following the initial pilot, Michaels delivery via Instacart is expected to expand to all Michaels stores in the U.S. over the coming months.
“As the largest one-stop shop for all things arts and crafts in North America, our partnership with Instacart provides a quick and convenient way for our makers to purchase ordinary craft supplies so they can create extraordinary projects,” said Heather Bennett, EVP of Innovation at Michaels in a statement.
Around the same time last year, Michaels launched contactless same-day delivery nationwide in response to the emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic, which it managed internally.

“With spring holidays and summer break quickly approaching, we know consumers value the convenience of having art supplies, seasonal décor and activity kits for the kids delivered from the store to their door in as fast as an hour,” said Chris Rogers, VP of Retail at Instacart in a statement.
Michaels got a bump last year as homebound consumers rediscovered their crafty side, with comparable store sales up 4.8% in FY 2020 (ended Jan. 31, 2021) following declines in FY 2019. Last month, Apollo Global Management announced that it will acquire Michaels and take the company private.
