During the week of October 31, 2011, IBM released IBM Smarter Checkout, a retail technology solution designed to enable stores to offer targeted third-party products and services to consumers at checkout. The new solution offers retailers the ability to allow customers to shop via their mobile device, scan orders, redeem digital coupons, access loyalty points and pay for orders at an IBM self-service pay station. “The store is the retailer’s most important channel for reaching consumers,” said Steve Ladwig, General Manager for IBM Retail Store Solutions. “It is the critical touch point where retail clients can deliver a differentiated shopping experience and deepen a customer’s relationship to the brand. Smarter checkout connects the store to shoppers by simplifying the
delivery of end-to-end cross-channel offerings, and providing a seamless
shopping experience, all while keeping costs down and managing risks.” The IBM Smarter Checkout captures and analyzes customer data to help retailers efficiently respond to changing customer demand and supplier market conditions. Enabling cross-channel integration, the solution offers consumers access to products available online and in stores as well as provides links to reducing front-of-the-store losses caused by cashier and operations error, fraud and theft.
