Hibbett Sports Pilots Same-Day Delivery, Implements Installment Payments

Hibbett Sports was a latecomer to the e-Commerce side of retail, only launching its online site in 2017. But the company has since bolstered its online presence in a big way, integrating   into the Hibbett online store under a shared brand name. Hibbett’s latest move to bridge shopping channels includes launching same-day delivery in four markets and deploying installment payments from Klarna.

Hibbett is piloting same-day delivery via Shipt in Atlanta, Birmingham, Ala., Charlotte, N.C. and select Nashville area zip codes. Hibbett Rewards VIP members can get same-day delivery free.

“A lot of the digital innovation you read about is taking place in America’s largest cities. Today we are excited to bring that same sort of innovation to our underserved small and mid-sized markets,” said Jeff Rosenthal, President and CEO of Hibbett in a statement. “Hibbett customers are passionate about the products we carry and if they are unable to make it to the store, we can still get their items to them that day.”

Shoppers can click “Deliver Today” on Hibbett.com before adding items to a shopping bag and checking out, and can then select a delivery window to receive their items at home or work. Additionally, shoppers are able to track order status via email or text.

Beyond same-day delivery, Hibbett sought to improve another customer-facing aspect of the online shopper journey with the introduction of installment payments. With Klarna, Hibbett customers can now choose to pay for products in four equal payments, collected bi-weekly, with no interest or fees.

Klarna’s ‘Pay in 4’ option is designed to be a payment choice that encourages more confident online purchasing without the hassle of a long-term commitment, interest or upfront costs. Flexible payments are particularly attractive to younger consumers who want to avoid credit debt. Four equal payments are automatically collected from the consumer’s chosen method of payment — one installment at purchase and three further payments every two weeks.

Other retail chains that have recently added the Pay in 4 option include H&M, Asos, Planet Blue and TOMS.
