AirWatch Expands Enterprise App
Capabilities With Version 5.13

AirWatch, a provider of enterprise-grade Mobile Device and Smartphone Management (MDM) software, recently announced the release of AirWatch 5.13. AirWatch 5.13 is designed to further accelerate and secure mobile device deployments through its enhanced Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) integration and certificate management framework, which streamlines the task of generating and managing certificates on mobile devices for authentication and encryption. AirWatch 5.13 directly integrates with Microsoft Certificate Services, as well as several other PKI infrastructures. Certificates can be generated and managed using either a pre-defined CA service account or with end-user credentials. The solution integrates with Microsoft Active Directory to store certificate information in a user’s account, as well as associates the certificate with the user’s account as a logon credential, which is required for single-factor certificate-based authentication with Exchange ActiveSync. This method of ActiveSync authentication can prevent account lockouts that occur due to expired passwords.

Teradata to Acquire Aster Data

Teradata Corporation signed a definitive agreement to acquire Aster Data Systems, Inc., a provider of advanced analytics and data management. The combination of Teradata and Aster Data technologies is focused on enabling businesses to unlock the new intelligence hidden within the ever-growing volume of big data. Teradata is acquiring Aster Data’s business, including its intellectual property and technology product line, through a merger transaction. Teradata plans to support Aster Data’s customers and integrate its employees immediately upon completion of the acquisition, which is expected to occur in the second quarter of 2011. Teradata acquired an 11% ownership interest in Aster Data in September 2010, and has agreed to pay an additional $263 million for the remaining ownership interest, net of debt and other expenses. In addition, through this acquisition, Teradata will obtain approximately $21 million in cash, which Aster Data is expected to have on its balance sheet at closing.

“We are excited about the big data analytics market opportunity that Aster Data brings to Teradata,” said Mike Koehler, President & CEO of Teradata Corporation. “This, coupled with our recent Integrated Marketing Management acquisition with Aprimo, and our increased investments into our core data warehouse business, provide three best-in-class platforms to fuel future growth for Teradata.”
