Urban Outfitters has acquired the Vetri Family group of restaurants, including Pizzeria Vetri, in an effort to expand both the retailer’s and eatery’s brands. Financial terms for the acquisition have not been disclosed.
Chef Marc Vetri, who co-founded and co-headed the Vetri Family group of restaurants with business partner Jeff Benjamin, referred to the partnership as “a perfect match.”
“Having known Marc for almost a decade and partnered with him through his charitable foundation, we are honored to have him, Jeff and the Vetri family join the URBN team,” said Richard A. Hayne, CEO of Urban Outfitters, Inc. “Spending on casual dining is expanding rapidly, and thus, we believe there is tremendous opportunity to expand the Pizzeria Vetri concept.”

Although it is an apparel retailer, Urban Outfitters has added in-store dining options in multiple locations. The dining options are part of the retailer’s “lifestyle concept” shops, which are designed to offer consumers experiences they can’t find when shopping at a competing store or web site.
Along with Vetri, fellow chefs Michael Symon and Ilan Hall are working with the retailer to open eateries in numerous Urban Outfitters stores.
