Ikea U.S. is expanding its existing slate of design tools and services with the debut of an Interior Design Service, offering consumers and businesses the chance to connect virtually with an interior design expert to help develop any space.
Ikea has long offered expert support for the kitchen design process, but this new offering covers any residential or commercial space, including offices, restaurants, lodging and retail spaces. In true Ikea form, the service is priced affordably, starting at $99 for consumers and $299 for businesses.
The design process starts with a questionnaire: customers describe their wish list and dream space and are then paired with a designer based on region. The Ikea designer and customer will then communicate through three virtual, one-on-one sessions, via the Ikea website and videoconferencing, to develop an inspirational mood board, floor plan, elevations, detailed 3D renderings, lighting plan, curated product list, home furnishing tips and material suggestions.
With the final design documentation, Ikea will then coordinate delivery, assembly and installation by ordering products to be delivered straight to the home or business and organizing any necessary ancillary services such as furniture assembly with TaskRabbit.
