At Checkout, 55% Of Shoppers Are DIY Enthusiasts

A majority of today’s shoppers don’t have the time to wait for cashiers: 55% always or usually use self-checkout options to make in-store purchases, and 61% do so because they believe it’s quicker. Enabling these speedy checkouts should be a top priority for retailers, because 44% of consumers are likely to abandon a shopping trip if they experience a long checkout line.

The need for speed is also fueling growth in emerging fulfillment solutions: 40% of shoppers now use buy online, pick up in-store (BOPIS) services on a regular basis, and 15% use curbside pickup. Additionally, 31% take advantage of buy online, return in-store programs to minimize shipping hassles.
