Completed in late 2021, the Vegas Sports showroom in Gurgaon, India speaks to sports enthusiasts through a design scheme that makes extensive use of the sporting equipment sold within the store. Notable unique design features include a console table in light-hued wood with a base created using a bicycle frame, and cricket bats lined up to serve in place of railings for a staircase that leads down to the store’s basement.
Lead architect Priya Doon of The Picturesque Studio used Astroturf to highlight different areas, such as backsplash details and flooring, to emphasize the outdoors and connect to the nostalgia of “a playground that calls out to the customers’ inner child.” Upon approaching the store, visitors encounter an Astroturf-lined Vegas Sports exterior sign. Within the store, the open environment is supported by displays that rely on minimalist wall-mounted hardware and ceiling-suspended stands. Displays throughout the store rely on light wood shelving complemented by black metal supports.
In the middle of the store, bicycles are placed centrally on displays and also suspended from the ceiling. A back area of the store is used to display activewear, yoga supplies, boxing gear, weights, sneakers and exercise machine floor models. Floor displays feature basketball, rugby and soccer balls and cricket equipment, in addition to skateboarding goods and a floor-to-ceiling display offering the latest sneaker styles. A wall on the righthand side is lined with Astroturf to display products such as activewear, swim goggles, and tennis and badminton racquets.
Heading down to the basement, customers find additional bicycles displayed on light-wood shelves, in addition to displays resembling the tough inclines cyclists might encounter during a ride, with cycling helmets displayed on an opposing wall. Visitors will also find table-top games such as foosball and pool as the focal points of this space, inviting visitors to participate in an in-store match.
