“I am looking forward to returning to Stop & Shop, which is where I started with this organization,” said Nicholson in a statement. He originally joined the supermarket retailer in 2004 as a grocery buyer and category manager: “It’s a brand I know well and look forward to caring for in my new role.” Nicholson’s career also has included stints at Walmart, SuperValu and Winn-Dixie.

In his new position, Nicholson will be responsible for merchandising strategy, category management, promotional planning and execution and pricing at the retailer, which operates more than 350 supermarkets in New England and the mid-Atlantic.

“Lee will carry forward the next phases of the large, multi-year price investments Stop & Shop is making, which is a key part of our commitment to strengthen our customer value proposition,” said Roger Wheeler, President of Stop & Shop in a statement. “Lee is an excellent leader who has the ability to build strong teams focused on the customer, and I look forward to aligning our merchandising strategies to support our work to reposition Stop & Shop.”
