Nordstrom has appointed Cathy R. Smith as its new CFO, effective May 29, 2023. Smith brings extensive experience in retail finance posts, including serving as CFO at Walmart from 2010 to 2014 and at Target from 2015 to 2020. Most recently, she was Chief Administrative Officer and CFO at Bright Health Group.

At Nordstrom, Smith will be responsible for financial planning and analysis, accounting, tax, internal audit, treasury, investor relations and strategy sourcing. Interim CFO Michael Maher will be leaving Nordstrom to pursue other opportunities but will remain with the company through June 16 to facilitate a smooth transition.

“Cathy is a proven and well-respected leader with more than 30 years of financial leadership experience,” said Erik Nordstrom, CEO of Nordstrom in a statement. “With her impressive record delivering business results at blue chip brands and deep expertise navigating a complex retail environment, we’re confident she will be an excellent addition to our team and will help us achieve our growth priorities.”

This is the second Nordstrom C-suite appointment in recent weeks: the retailer named Jason Morris as its new Chief Technology and Information Officer in April. Morris’ most recent role was as SVP of Enterprise Business Services at Walmart.
