Paula Schneider has been appointed CEO of DG Premium Brands less than a month after stepping down from her position as CEO of American Apparel. Schneider’s appointment is part of a restructuring strategy at DG, which operates brands that include 7 For All Mankind, Splendid and Ella Moss.
Schneider had served as CEO of the troubled, often controversial American Apparel since December 2014, where she needed security guards to protect her. She previously held leadership roles at BCBG Max Azria, Laundry by Shelli Segal and Warnaco.
“We are thrilled to welcome such a proven retail leader as Paula to oversee DG Premium Brands, where we see significant potential for global growth and product expansion,” said Isaac Dabah, CEO of DG Premium Brands owner Delta Galil Industries in a statement. “Paula brings an entrepreneurial mindset, demonstrated leadership skills and strong vision, which will be instrumental in executing our ambitious goals for these brands.”

During this week’s Most Powerful Women Summit hosted by Fortune, Schneider was asked about any lessons that she plans on taking to her new role at DG. Here is what she had to say:
“I’ve had 55 lawsuits from the founder [of American Apparel], and many of his colleagues lobbed against the company,” Schneider said. “I got sued for handing out popsicles on hot days to the workers. You name it. I think I’ve learned so many things. I’ve learned about proxy battles. And I do think I built an awesome team. This was a team that we felt like we had gone through a war together and I think it’s all about putting the right people in place and empowering them to do what they do best. “
After receiving well wishes from the moderator, Schneider said, “I don’t have a bodyguard here so it’s already better.”
