Patagonia Promotes Three Executives, Fills Parent Company CEO Slot

Patagonia has named Ryan Gellert CEO of Patagonia Works, the retailer’s holding company. Gellert has overseen Patagonia’s European, Middle Eastern and African business since 2014. The retailer also will elevate Lisa Williams to the role of Head of Innovation, Design and Merchandising, and Jenna Johnson to Head of Patagonia Inc.

Gellert has a history of supporting Patagonia’s commitment to environmental activism, and he helped the retailer position itself as a leader of outdoor causes in Europe. Prior to his time at Patagonia, he was President of Black Diamond and volunteered as a legal intern with the ACLU of Utah.

Johnson, who previously led Patagonia’s technical outdoor business, will now oversee the apparel and equipment divisions. Williams, who joined the Patagonia Product Team in 2001, will lead the company’s developments in materials, carbon-capturing business models and design.

“Ryan is the right person with the best experience and leadership approach to guide our company,” said Kris Tompkins, first CEO of Patagonia in a statement. “He will be supported by our incredible leadership team, both new and ongoing, and staff of all levels, who have helped make our company what it is today. The work ahead promises to be more important and satisfying than anything we have done so far, and we are beyond excited for what the future holds.”
