Macy’s customers helped support March of Dimes and thousands of local charities on Saturday, August 25, 2012, during the retailer’s seventh annual, one-day-only charity shopping event. “Shop For A Cause” has helped raise more than $42 million for charitable organizations across the U.S., without the addition of this year’s proceeds.
The recent fundraiser was offered at all Macy’s stores nationwide and on macys.com, benefiting more than 6,000 local charities and the national March of Dimes program. By purchasing a $5 “Shop For A Cause” savings pass from their favorite charitable organizations, which benefited directly, customers received 25% off on regular, sale and clearance merchandise, 10% off on selected in-store items, and became eligible to win a $500 gift card.
“Our customers’ ongoing support is an inspiration,” said Macy’s CMO, Martine Reardon, in a company press release, “and we are proud to offer them an effective, yet simple way to make a positive difference in their communities while enjoying great savings at Macy’s.”
Macy’s support “is invaluable to our mission and our volunteers,” said Chad Royal-Pascoe, VP, National Strategic Alliances and Cause Marketing for March of Dimes, a leading nonprofit organization for pregnancy and baby health. ”Last year alone, Macy’s raised $3.2 million on behalf of mothers and babies.”
