Days after announcing its own private label food brand, Amazon expanded its Prime Now restaurant delivery business to include Dallas and New York City, offering services featuring more than 350 local Big Apple eateries.
The move, sure to generate new Prime members and dramatically increase Amazon’s long reach, puts pressure on restaurant delivery providers such as GrubHub, Seamless and UberEATS, which already offer their services in New York.
For now, Amazon Restaurants will service Manhattan, though not the outer boroughs of New York. Participating restaurants are in neighborhoods such as Chelsea, Harlem and the Financial District. Orders should be delivered in one hour or less, according to Amazon.

The service is free with an Amazon Prime membership, which costs $99 a year. The company said it wouldn’t mark up prices higher than those shown on a restaurant’s current online menu.
The online retailer said that customers using the Prime Now mobile app or visiting the new Prime Now web site would be able to view participating restaurants, browse menus and place orders. Customers can also track the status of their delivery. Through Amazon’s Prime Now portals, customers in select cities can also place delivery orders for items such as groceries, electronics and health and beauty products.
“Whether you are looking to dine at home or need dinner delivered to the office, Amazon Restaurants on Prime Now offers customers a broad selection of cuisines with a guarantee that customers will pay the same price with Prime Now as they do at the restaurant,” said Gus Lopez, GM of Amazon Restaurants.
Amazon Restaurants has already been offered in cities including Chicago, Los Angeles and Portland.
