eBay’s Luxury Exchange has launched a physical pop-up store in the heart of New York City’s Diamond District to promote its authenticated pre-owned jewelry, handbags and watches during NYC Jewelry Week. The eBay Luxury Exchange pop-up experience will run until Nov. 17 at 22 W. 47th St. to promote the expansion of the ecommerce giant’s Authenticity Guarantee to the jewelry category.

The 550-squre-foot physical store features authenticated goods from luxury brands such as Bottega Veneta, Cartier and Rolex. Customers can receive appraisals and the opportunity to exchange their luxury items for “closet currency,” a value assigned to products by eBay’s expert authenticators. Customers can also visit the shop’s on-site photo studio and choose to list their goods on eBay themselves instead of exchanging them.

The green storefront features a simple illuminated “ebay” sign above a large display window. Pieces from the platform’s luxury inventory are displayed in the window space, which is illuminated by bright track lighting. A stock exchange-style sign reveals trade-in values for different items such as Cartier’s Love Bracelet, the Rolex GMT Master with Pepsi bezel and Tudor’s Oyster Prince Submariner.

Visitors are greeted by the Authenticity Guarantee logo as they enter the shop’s front door. While the space’s exterior resembles other quaint storefronts in the Diamond District, the pop-up stands out with its interior that features a unique green-tea hue.

eBay has designed a number of short-term pop-up experiences to promote opportunities for collectors to engage with its authenticator services, and the company often chooses locations that speak to a particular category. Over the 2022 Memorial Day holiday weekend, eBay produced its Wear ‘Em Out brick-and-mortar pop-up space on Los Angeles’ Fairfax Avenue, a neighborhood that is central to streetwear culture.

“It’s never been easier for luxury enthusiasts to refine their collections in a trusted environment, and we wanted to create an IRL experience that reflects what’s happening on eBay every day,” said Tirath Kamdar, GM of Luxury at eBay in a statement. “The Luxury Exchange gives shoppers an opportunity to appraise and sell their valuable goods and add something new to their personal collections — just in time for the holiday season.”
