Walmart is acquiring Volt Systems, a solution provider that offers suppliers enhanced on-demand visibility into merchandising resources. The application is designed to deliver current store-level data, actionable analytics and shelf intelligence to help suppliers plan, forecast and optimize product assortment. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The acquisition, which includes Volt Systems’ employees and customer agreements, will help Walmart build its investment in tools that help the retailer anticipate customer demand. Gaining better insight into product assortment will enable the retail giant to reduce the friction caused by out-of-stocks.
This purchase matches Walmart’s recent investments in its supply chain and the need to right-size inventory amid changing shopper habits. The retailer also plans to grow its supply chain workforce even though it recently cut 200 jobs elsewhere.
