While the back-to-school shopping season has been starting earlier, with Amazon Prime Day becoming an unofficial kickoff date, the majority (nearly 55%) of consumers wait until August to stock up on backpacks, school supplies and apparel. A few procrastinators, 8.3% of all shoppers, put off their purchases until early September.
Nearly one quarter (24.5%) of shoppers plan to spend more this year compared to 2017, and only 9.6% say they will decrease their spending. The largest group, 47.9%, plan to spend the same amount in 2018.
