Lexmark Acquires AccessVia And Twistage

On March 12, 2013, Lexmark International finalized its 8th acquisition since 2010 with the latest transactions involving AccessVia and Twistage. AccessVia brings a signage software platform to the new company, that produces digital shelf signs, large digital displays or electronic shelf labels; and Twistage offers a cloud software platform for managing video, audio and image content. Lexmark’s expertise has been in printing and imaging hardware, software and solutions. The combined acquisition totaled approximately $31.5 million.

AccessVia currently provides signage solutions to more than 75 retailers with more than 60,000 stores, including Best Buy, Office Depot, Safeway, Family Dollar and El Core Ingles. In 2012, Lexmark sold products in more than 170 countries and reported $3.8 billion in revenue.

The Lexmark-AccessVia partnership was a “natural progression,” stated Matthew Dollus, Senior Director, Solutions – North America at Lexmark, in an interview with Retail TouchPoints. “We are looking forward to new opportunities to further integrate our capabilities.”

“For literally 20 years we’ve been working together to bring an end-to-end solution for retailers,” added Dean Sleeper, Founder of AccessVia. Sleeper’s position with the new company is: TVP and VP Global Retail Software Solutions.

When asked about any upcoming announcements, both Dollus and Sleeper agreed that the focus will be on “simplifying the process for our customers and ultimately helping them to lift sales and cut costs with less effort,” as explained by Sleeper.

“This is an incredible new beginning for AccessVia,” said Sleeper. “This is not a situation where after a big company buys a small company you can no longer find that small company. Rather, AccessVia will continue to serve our customers and operate out of our Seattle offices and, strengthened by Lexmark, we will continue to enhance the experience and value of our shared offering for retailers.”

Regarding the Twistage acquisition, David Wadler, Founder and CEO, stated: “We look forward to leveraging the global footprint and financial strength of Lexmark as we bring Twistage’s rich media technologies to Perceptive Software’s innovative enterprise content and process management solutions.”
