Between the last two generations of iPhones, packaging used for the product has decreased in weight by 34%, while Coke’s 20-ounce PET plastic bottle slimmed down 25% of its weight from January to October 2023.
In addition to the continued shift toward lighter packaging, key trends in this area include:
- Clear labeling that shows how to properly dispose of or recycle packaging;
- Increased usage of bare minimum packaging, especially for products that are purchased online; and
- Promotion of active sustainability commitments, such as partnerships with NGOs.
