Handbags, Shoes Lead Holiday Apparel Sales

Two sub-categories within apparel and accessories rise to the top of consumers’ holiday shopping lists. Handbags see a 4.1X increase during the season, while shoes receive a 2.5X upward kick.

Consumers don’t just click on an item and buy it, however. Apparel has a long consideration phase, beginning in mid-November and extending into the New Year through post-holiday promotions. For example, the average shopper journey for a handbag purchase includes five days researching nine products, with one product revisit across three online browsing sessions.
