Dragons, Elves and Geeky Kids: TV Characters to Dominate Halloween Costume Purchases

TV and movies characters from new releases will dominate the costume market this halloween.

Halloween 2022 looks set to return to pre-pandemic spending levels and hit a record $10.6 billion in sales, according to the National Retail Federation, and costumes from some of the year’s biggest TV shows will capture large portions of that spending.

HBO’s House of the Dragon, Netflix’s Strangers Things and Amazon Prime’s Rings of Power (the most expensive TV show ever made) are the top three brands inspiring costumes this year. And while sci-fi and fantasy dominated the top genres, two of the year’s biggest movies will also have a presence, with Elvis and Top Gun making top five appearances in six out of nine countries.

Another interesting tidbit — Skittles will be the most popular candy this year, edging out Milky Way, Reese’s and candy corn. Taste the rainbow!
