Driven by Sustainability Concerns, 40% of Shoppers Consider Resale Value of Purchases

Resale is hitting the mainstream: 40% of shoppers now consider the resale value of an item before making a purchase, double the share of five years ago. However, a majority of consumers still perceive high barriers to actually reselling items: 64% want to participate in resale but believe it takes too much time to use platforms like eBay or Craigslist.

Despite the friction of resale processes, the push for sustainability continues to climb: 72% of shoppers preferred to buy from sustainable brands in 2018 compared to 57% in 2013.
