Brands are Branching Out from the Amazon Marketplace

When it comes to online marketplaces, Amazon is no longer the only game in town. Brands looking to expand their reach online are increasingly turning to alternate third-party marketplaces, and with good reason — the top 100 marketplaces accounted for close to $2 trillion in annual sales in 2020. Other key marketplace stats include:

  • 53% of brands believe that e-marketplaces are their greatest source of future opportunity (up from 43% in 2020);
  • 33% of Amazon sellers said they plan to start selling on other ecommerce platforms this year; and
  • 21% of Amazon sellers are planning to open their own ecommerce store in 2021.
