Inflation has put cost at the top of shoppers’ minds, and it’s being reflected in how they look at shipping — 80% of U.S. shoppers say they are either majorly or somewhat influenced by shipping costs. However, this behavior also provides opportunities: another 85% of shoppers would prioritize ecommerce platforms with free or flat-rate shipping, and 70% would spend more to reach a deal on shipping.
This trend means retailers must be cautious when passing logistics costs on to their customers. Nearly two-thirds (65%) of shoppers will regularly cancel a purchase due to high shipping costs, and another 90% of shoppers will avoid platforms that they perceive as having a high price tag attached to their shipping options.
