56% of Consumers Plan to Host (and Grocery Shop for) Holiday Celebrations

Good news about vaccination rates and a heartier economy have reignited consumers’ taste for hosting holiday gatherings that include a meal. While just 47% of consumers were planning to play host in 2020, that number has risen to 56% this year. Among these hosts, 24% are planning to invite more people this year, while 45% will keep the same head count as in 2020.

This urge to entertain is good news for brick-and-mortar grocery stores: 70% of consumers plan to do their holiday meal shopping in-store, with 62% saying they prefer in-store over online shopping so they can see, touch and select fresh food.
