51% Of Shoppers Say Online Search Starts Their Purchase Journey

Search reigns supreme as the starting point for e-Commerce: 51% of U.S. and UK shoppers began the journey to their latest purchase with an online search, compared to just 17% for emails and 9% for offline word-of-mouth recommendations.

UK consumers were more likely than their U.S. counterparts to move from search to purchase: 55% for the Brits versus 47% for the Yankees. Millennials in particular like to leverage search: 57% choose it as their top channel for kicking off digital shopping trips.
