Nearly 50% of Shoppers Love Social Media for Discovery, but 71% Prefer to Buy Directly From Brands

Social media is great for top-of-funnel discovery, but less effective at sealing the deal. Nearly half of shoppers think social media is a great place to learn about new products, but just 12% think it’s a great place to buy. Additionally, 71% of online shoppers prefer to purchase directly on brand sites after they discover products on social media.

While this offers a great opportunity for retailers to bring customers into their own ecosystems, there is still a lot of work to be done. In fact, 81% of customers complained about their experiences when referred to the brand site from a social site — a challenge that needs to be overcome to take full advantage of the power of social media.
