Shoppers WON’T Shop On Thanksgiving, According To RTP Survey

Yes, you heard (or read, rather) that correctly. 

Despite the fact that many retailers, including J.C. Penney, Kmart, Kohl’s and Macy’s, are staying open on Thanksgiving Day, very few consumers plan to set foot in stores after their turkey dinners. 

Retail TouchPoints reached out to readers, friends and family to share their thoughts in an online poll. The question was: If stores open on Thanksgiving Day, will you or your family go shopping?

Is this the sole indicator of whether opening on Thanksgiving is smart for retailers? Of course not. But, the reality of the situation is that many consumers see Thanksgiving as a holiday to spend with family – not go shopping. 

It will be interesting to see Thanksgiving Day sales results, and whether retailers will see negative customer feedback for opening their doors during the holiday.
