Zebra Technologies has named Chief Product and Solutions Officer Bill Burns as its next CEO and board member, effective March 1, 2023. Current CEO Anders Gustafsson has been named Executive Chair of the Zebra Board of Directors.
Burns, a 30-year technology veteran, joined Zebra in 2015 as the company’s SVP of Enterprise Visibility and Mobility, and was promoted to the product and solutions chief role in 2018. Prior to his work with Zebra, Burns served as CEO of network services company Embrane, which was acquired by Cisco in 2015. He also worked with measurement solutions provider Spirent Communications for nine years, serving as the company’s CEO from 2008 to 2013.
“The need to digitize operations remains a strategic focus for our customers globally,” said Gustafsson in a statement. “Now more than ever, our customers need our solutions to improve workflows across their broader supply chains. Bill is the right leader to continue to advance our vision and further elevate Zebra as a trusted advisor to our customers and partners in our vibrant core as well as our high-growth adjacent and expansion markets.”
Gustafsson has led Zebra for 15 years. Prior to joining Zebra, he was CEO of Spirent Communications from 2004 to 2007. During his tenure as Zebra’s CEO, he has led the company’s expansion through a number of acquisitions such as:
- antuit.ai, an AI-powered SaaS solution provider, in August 2021;
- Reflexis Systems, an intelligent workforce solutions provider, in July 2020; and
- Profitect, a prescriptive analytics company in May 2019, which was rebranded as Zebra Prescriptive Analytics in 2020.
