Petco Health and Wellness Company has entered into a multi-year partnership with Nationwide that makes the insurance company the retailer’s exclusive provider. The partnership will combine Petco’s pet health and wellness solutions, which are available through its more than 1,500 pet care centers, with Nationwide’s deep database of claims data.
Petco’s goal with the partnership is to expand access to pet healthcare in the U.S. across all life stages, through Petco’s pharmacy, veterinary hospitals or clinics along with holistic offerings to help ensure animal wellness such as the retailer’s Vital Care program. Coverage will include preventative measures, including vaccination services, and unexpectedly needed medical care.
“Receiving the medical support pets need throughout their lives is critical for both pets and their families,” said Jenny Wolski, SVP of Omnichannel Customer Experience at Petco in a statement. “The customized, data-driven pet insurance solutions we’re developing in partnership with Nationwide will be designed to expand families’ access to Petco’s full range of pet care services, giving them longer and healthier lives together.”
Pet healthcare has been a focal point of Petco’s growth strategy. During its March 23, 2022 Investor Day, Petco revealed that integrating a loyalty program into its Vital Care initiative would be a priority. In June 2022, Petco launched a test of its new Neighborhood Farm & Pet Supply concept store in Floresville, Texas to attract potential customers in rural regions. In addition to its offerings for household pets, the concept focuses on the care of animals such as horses, cows, pigs, sheep and goats.
