Superstore retailer Meijer is scheduled to open its first Meijer Grocery stores on Jan. 26, 2023 in Michigan’s Orion and Macomb Townships. The supermarket store concept represents a departure for the Grand Rapids, Mich.-headquartered superstore retailer, relying on a smaller 75,000 to 90,000-square-foot space.

The Meijer Grocery locations also will offer a variety of local brands, featuring products across departments from Michigan companies such as:

  • Zingerman’s;
  • Achatz Handmade Pie Company;
  • Crispelli’s Bakery;
  • Rinaldi Fresh Sausage;
  • Dearborn Brand;
  • Kowalski Sausage Company;
  • The Brinery; and
  • Buddy’s Pizza.

Shoppers at these new stores will be able to use the same Meijer supercenters savings and delivery options including mPerks, Shop and Scan, Meijer Home Delivery and Pickup.

“Orion and Macomb Townships are already very familiar with our Meijer supercenters, but we believe they will benefit from the added convenience Meijer Grocery will bring to their neighborhoods,” said Don Sanderson, SVP of Merchandising at Meijer in a statement. “We specifically chose to launch this new store format in southeast Michigan because we’re a Michigan company that has been serving customers in Metro Detroit for decades.”
