Will Wearing An Apple Watch Hurt Your Career?

By Alicia Fiorletta, Senior Editor

Orders for the Apple Watch starting to roll in at 12:01 a.m. PT on April 10. Within a single day, the tech giant managed to sell approximately 957,000 devices, according to Business Insider

Before Apple announced its entry into wearable tech, the market remained somewhat stagnant. Although the Fitbit has undoubtedly made its mark, the Android Wear and Samsung smartwatches have failed to stand out and drive urgency among consumers.

But will the momentum for Apple Watch continue? According to a survey of 20,000 business professionals, people are almost evenly split on whether they’ll buy an Apple Watch. While 41% said they would, 59% said they wouldn’t. One third (33%) of respondents for the survey conducted by Owler even said the wouldn’t hire a potential candidate if they were wearing an Apple Watch. Extreme? Definitely.

After all, 67% said they would hire someone if they were wearing the tech and 80% of respondents said the Apple Watch looks professional. (Although I’m hoping they’ll be paying closer attention to the talent and experience of the candidate, but maybe that’s just me.)
