image

A lot of pivotal retail news hit the wire over the past week, including executive shakeups, important business changes, new product collaborations and so much more!

In an effort to keep you in the loop regarding the latest and greatest announcements and happenings, here’s a breakdown of our top stories of the week:

Loyalty programs still matter: That is, if the offers are relevant and the experience is consistent across all channels! In this exclusive special report, Retail TouchPoints associate editor Glenn Taylor dives into the current state of customer loyalty, and outlines how retailers such as Kohl’s have stepped up their programs by integrating Apple Pay and more flexible program tiers and redemption options.

Taylor Swift to design new clothing line for Chinese retailer: Does everything Ms. Swift touch turn to sold? We’ll find out when the songstress designs and releases a new clothing line through JD.com. If her record sales have any inclination, Swift will undoubtedly shake up the retail competition by offering trendy, vintage-inspired apparel.

Kate Spade prepares for cross-category domination: Kate Spade New York may have shut down its contemporary Saturday line and all Jack Spade stores, but that doesn’t mean the brand has admitted defeat! Instead, it has re-strategized. According to new reports from Women’s Wear Daily, Kate Spade plans to expand into a slew of categories, including children’s clothing, sleepwear, kitchen accessories and a 16-piece fitness collection developed with Beyond Yoga. We can’t wait to see how Kate Spade markets these new categories to consumers, and more importantly, what the results will be!

Former Lucky leader joins Instagram: Eva Chen, protege of Anna Wintour, social media maven and former Editor-in-Chief at Lucky has joined Instagram as the company’s new Head of Fashion Partnerships. The position, in our opinion, is a perfect fit for Chen. She could easily be named an Instagram darling – she posts here outfits and cosmetics nearly every day and tags all featured brands. She has a tremendous following and fashion is in her (professional) blood. With Instagram expanding its advertising offerings, it’s missing one key thing: More advertisers! And the fashion category is a huge low-hanging fruit opportunity for the social network. We’ll be keeping tabs on this change-up and will report on any significant developments!

Retailers shut down their online photo services in light of potential hack: Ah yes, another day, another data breach. But this time, it wasn’t a retailer’s fault. A slew of retailers, including CVS, Rite Aid and Costco terminated access to their online photo editing and ordering properties due to a potential breach. It is said that the security threat stemmed from PNI Digital Media, a Canada-based third-party solution provider that powers these retailers’ photo sites.
