What I love about fashion is that there’s inspiration everywhere. You can see a unique bag at a flea market, a must-have dress in a blockbuster film and your next pair of jeans walking down the street.
Yes, that’s right: You can be inspired by strangers walking down the street. I know I’ve seen my fair share of outfits where I’ve thought to myself: Man, where can I get THAT?!
Rather than awkwardly stopping a stranger on the street and asking where they got a piece, I now have a handy little app called Craves, which is launching today for iOS devices. The boutique fashion discovery app uses advanced visual search technology so consumers can snap photos of items they see in real life, and then receive the same (or similar) product pages online. Once they receive their search results, they can purchase an item with one click! Users also can upload images they see on social networks like Pinterest and Instagram.

Craves is part of the Slyce portfolio of apps, which includes Pounce and SnipSnap. A variety of retailers, including Lord & Taylor and Neiman Marcus, use Slyce technology to better connect mobile-toting consumers to their products.
It is undeniable that consumers use their smartphones to complete a plethora of tasks throughout the day. Some may even say that they depend and are addicted to their devices. Retailers that embrace this technology can capture consumer attention and awareness through the device of their choice, a concept that has become tablestakes for all industry players.
Consumers, on the other hand, benefit from having instant access to millions of products from more than 100 retailers. Products that align with their individual wants and needs and are similar to their favorite styles roaming the streets or the social media universe. Seems like a win-win to me!
