Amazon has launched Amazon Pharmacy, a prescription delivery service that lets shoppers complete an entire pharmacy transaction through the Amazon App and includes special discounts and unlimited two-day delivery for Prime members.
Amazon Pharmacy offers Prime members up to 80% off generics and 40% off brand-name medications when they pay without insurance. Prime members also can these access savings at more than 50,000 participating pharmacies across the U.S.
Other key features of Amazon Pharmacy include:
- Shoppers can confidentially research medicines and check their insurance copay versus the price without insurance before they check out;
- Customers can add insurance information, and can ask their prescriber to send new or existing prescriptions directly to Amazon Pharmacy for fulfilment to simplify ordering; and
- Pharmacists are available 24/7 to answer any questions shoppers may have about medications.
Amazon Pharmacy will expand on the services offered by PillPack, which will remain a distinct service that caters to shoppers who manage multiple daily medications for chronic conditions. Amazon acquired PillPack in 2018 for an undisclosed amount, representing the ecommerce giant’s first steps into the pharmacy space.

“As more and more people look to complete everyday errands from home, pharmacy is an important and needed addition to the Amazon online store,” said Doug Herrington, SVP of North American Consumer at Amazon in a statement. “PillPack has provided exceptional pharmacy service for individuals with chronic health conditions for over six years. Now, we’re expanding our pharmacy offering to Amazon.com, which will help more customers save time, save money, simplify their lives and feel healthier.”
