Lowe’s Teams with OpenAI to Develop AI Assistant for Homeowners

Lowe’s has a new sales associate — Mylow, a conversational AI agent available anywhere, anytime for MyLowe’s loyalty members. Mylow is designed to help customers navigate the many questions that come with owning a home, from project planning to how-to advice to searching for the right product.

Developed in collaboration with OpenAI and leveraging Lowe’s expert advice, Mylow provides customers with clear steps and practical solutions for home projects ranging from lawn care to home renovations and maintenance, appliance or paint selection and more.

“Home improvement is inherently complex and can feel overwhelming even for the most experienced DIYer — that’s why Lowe’s has invested in AI and emerging technologies to create solutions that truly help our customers,” said Seemantini Godbole, Chief Digital and Information Officer at Lowe’s in a statement. “We’re aiming to deliver the best customer service in retail and Mylow represents an industry-leading step forward in helping us do that. This solution will not only help our customers be more informed, but our associates too.”

Mylow’s quick conversational answers also will include links to related products when they’re relevant in order to help customers find and purchase the right tools and materials for their projects. Customers also can refine these recommendations by providing details like their project budget or zip code.

Mylow is currently available on desktop and mobile web, but Lowe’s promised that voice capabilities and access via the Lowe’s app are coming later this year.

Mylow Just the Latest in Lowe’s Tech Offerings

The introduction of Mylow follows the recent debut of a “Digital Home Platform” that offers MyLowe’s members free personalized information about the products in their home, such as warranties, manuals, maintenance guidelines, how-to content, recommended subscriptions and replacement parts. 

“We’re doubling down with emerging technology collaborators like OpenAI to solve problems for our customers and because we want the home improvement experience at Lowe’s to be a cut above,” said Chandhu Nair, SVP of Technology at Lowe’s in a statement.

Other technologies recently developed by the company include:

  • Interactive store digital twins that makes it easier for executives to access frequently updated store information as well optimize layouts and merchandising;
  • Lowe’s Style Studio, a kitchen visualization experience designed exclusively for Apple Vision Pro, which was recently expanded to five new stores; 
  • Measure Your Space, a room measurement tool for the iPhone using ARKit and the LiDAR Scanner; and
  • Experiences like Lowe’s Product Expert, a custom GPT that delivers home improvement product recommendations via generative AI.
