Walmart has opened two new Neighborhood Market stores that are over 40% larger than the average-sized location in this format, boasting 57,000 square feet of selling, pickup and delivery space. Located in the Dune Lakes area of Santa Rosa Beach, Fla. and the Vine City neighborhood of Atlanta, the stores feature wider aisles, a health services room in pharmacies for privacy during vaccinations and consultations, and a Mother’s Room for nursing moms.
In January 2024, Walmart announced ambitious plans to open 150 new stores and remodel 650 existing locations within the next five years.
“With the larger layout, we can offer a broader assortment across the entire store,” wrote Kyle Kinnard, SVP, Neighborhood Markets for Walmart U.S. in a blog post. “Customers will see the biggest gains in our fresh departments. There will be more to choose from in bakery, produce, meat and dairy. Plus, the expanded service deli will offer more hot-case options.”
The Neighborhood Stores have been designed with convenience in mind, including additional space in pickup areas for refrigerated goods that will help associates keep orders moving at a fast pace.
