Direct-to-consumer health care apparel and lifestyle brand Figs has opened its first permanent physical retail space in LA’s Century City Mall. In addition to providing shoppers — who Figs refers to as “Awesome Humans” — with the opportunity to touch and try on products, the store, dubbed a “Community Hub,” will host events to celebrate health care professionals, provide programming on key issues impacting them and create opportunities for them to network and share their stories.
Figs chose Los Angeles for its permanent brick-and-mortar debut because it is one of the brand’s largest markets. The Century City Mall has annual foot traffic totaling approximately 20 million people, counts five health care clinics among its tenants and is located within 10 miles of six major health care institutions.
“We could not be more excited to open our first Community Hub, and to do it in Los Angeles, where Figs was founded,” said Trina Spear, CEO and Co-founder of Figs in a statement. “Figs was the first to create an ecommerce experience for our Awesome Humans, and we are thrilled to now give them a first-of-its-kind retail experience.”
Figs plans to take a disciplined approach to physical retail expansion by choosing markets with a high density of health care professionals. The retailer will open its next Community Hub in the first half of 2024 in Philadelphia’s Rittenhouse Square, within two miles of five health care institutions. Philadelphia has the country’s fourth-highest number of health care professionals, and one in every six U.S. doctors has been trained there.
