Global Icons has acquired Fred Segal for an undisclosed sum. The company plans to expand the clothing and accessories retailer’s international presence while maintaining its domestic growth, which includes a third Los Angeles location opening on April 6.
Fred Segal also will enhance its inventory at existing stores with new options, and grow its licensing across categories ranging from home décor to accessories. Global Brands will draw upon its experience working with iconic brands such as Hollywood Sign, Lamborghini and Vespa to help fuel this initiative.

Licensing won’t be a completely new experience for Fred Segal: the retailer’s Sunset Strip theme was the driving force behind a pop-up shop that operated in April and May 2018 through a partnership with Mastercard. The store exhibited a curated selection of more than 300 vintage and custom garments, and used digital display window technology that enabled shoppers to browse and interact with merchandise even while the store itself was closed.
