Walmart to Remodel 650 Stores this Year, Add 20 All-New Ones

Published: April 17, 2026

Walmart will remodel 650 of its Supercenters and Neighborhood Markets this year and add 20 new stores between now and early 2027 as part of its five-year plan, announced in 2024, to update stores and expand its fleet by more than 150 locations.

The remodeled stores will feature wider aisles, updated layouts, expanded pickup and delivery services, updated Vision Centers and pharmacies, more digital touch points and refreshed interiors and exteriors.

Many Neighborhood Markets also will get expanded deli and hot bar selections, improved lighting and fixtures, pharmacy delivery options and upgraded areas for fulfilling online grocery orders. Select Neighborhood Markets are undergoing a rapid remodel program designed to deliver quicker results with minimal customer disruption.

Walmart also has already opened several of the planned new stores for this year, including Supercenters in Eastvale, Calif. and Apollo Beach, Jacksonville and The Villages, Fla., as well as a Neighborhood Market in Ocala, Fla. More openings are planned for later in the year, including an expansion of the Supercenter in Tucson, Ariz., and the opening of a new Supercenter in Celina, Texas.

“We continue to deliver on the commitment we made two years ago because we know our stores matter — to customers, to communities and to the future of retail,” reads a company statement. “Our network of stores is one of our greatest strengths, and we are leveraging it to bring customers the speed, value and service they expect.”

Earlier this year, Walmart announced plans to expand the use of electronic shelf labels chainwide, and launched a digital healthcare hub to connect customers with third-party urgent care and behavioral health providers, as well as access to Lilly Direct pharmacy services. The retailer also has undergone a C-suite revamp under new President and CEO John Furner.
