By leveraging six Walmart Supercenter stores across the sprawling Atlanta metro area, the retailer, in partnership with Google drone subsidiary Wing, has added ultra-fast drone deliveries — often taking five minutes or less — for last-minute recipe items, forgotten gifts or household essentials.
“Atlanta is a powerhouse in aviation, and we’re bringing the same spirit of speed and efficiency to thousands of Walmart customers across the metro [area] just in time for the busiest season of the year,” said Heather Rivera, Chief Business Officer at Wing in a statement. “This launch is a critical next step in our significant expansion, turning drone delivery from novelty to norm as residents make drone delivery part of their everyday shopping.”
Walmart had added drone deliveries in five Southeastern U.S. cities, including Atlanta, in June 2025, following the January 2024 expansion of drone deliveries to 30 municipalities within the Dallas/Ft. Worth metroplex. Currently, Wing and Walmart make thousands of drone deliveries weekly in these Texas cities; in fact, 75% of customers have used the Wing drone delivery service more than once over the past year.
To use the enhanced drone delivery service, customers place their orders on the Wing app. Once the items are loaded onto a highly automated drone, it cruises safely at approximately 60 mph and about 150 feet off the ground, with five minutes or less average flight times. Upon arrival, the drone gently lowers the package to the ground with no assistance needed.

In April 2022 Walgreens and Wing partnered to make the retailer’s first commercial drone delivery, and DoorDash debuted drone delivery in partnership with Wing in the U.S. in March 2024 following a year-long trial in Australia. In October 2023 Amazon unveiled new innovations in drone delivery, along with plans to expand drone delivery in the U.S. and internationally.
