Lululemon has tapped AI and retail veteran Ranju Das for a newly created position, Chief AI and Technology Officer, effective Sept. 2, 2025. Lululemon’s current CIO Julie Averill will leave the company next month to pursue other opportunities as part of a planned leadership transition.

Das, who will report to CEO Calvin McDonald, has over two decades of leadership experience, including driving AI-first innovation in healthcare, financial and consumer technology. He was CEO and Founder of Swan AI Studios and served as CEO of OptumLabs, the R&D arm of UnitedHealth Group. Prior to that position, he spent nearly eight years at Amazon, ultimately serving as GM for Amazon AI Services, and he also has held engineering and leadership roles at Barnes & Noble.

“We see an exciting opportunity to further leverage AI and technology to advance our product innovation process, improve our agility and speed to market and bring more engagement and personalization to our guest experience,” said McDonald in a statement. “Ranju’s breadth of expertise and proven track record of leading large-scale technology and AI transformations make him the ideal individual to drive this work forward at Lululemon.”

Lululemon has faced increased competition from other athleisurewear brands; McDonald revealed how he plans to double the brand’s business in a session at the 2025 NRF Big Show.
