Best Buy Leans into Personalization with Mobile App Updates

Best Buy is rolling out new features in its mobile app to better personalize the shopping experience.

Best Buy is rolling out new features in its mobile app to better personalize the shopping experience. The electronics retailer promises that “each time you open the app, your experience will become more tailored and relevant,” with My Best Buy Plus or My Best Buy Total loyalty program members getting access to even more personalized offers and exclusive deals.  
New AI-powered features include:  

  • A personalized home screen that is constantly updated based on a user’s preferences, shopping habits, membership status and where they are in their technology shopping journey. For example, if a customer recently purchased an appliance and have an upcoming installation appointment, those details will be visible on the home screen;  
  • A “Discover” tab that includes sections such as Best Buy Drops, Yes, Best Buy Sells That, and a new Shop with Video experience that delivers personalized video content based on browsing behaviors;  
  • An improved digital wallet that gives shoppers easy access to their preferred payment methods, rewards points, purchase history and receipt preferences when they’re shopping online and in stores; and  
  • Live order tracking that allows iOS app users to see every stage of the fulfillment process via their lock screen and the “dynamic island” at the top of their device screen.   

Consumers can opt-in to receive personalized push notifications based on their preferences and expectations, such as rewards updates, pre-order launches and more. They also can “pin” specific features to their navigation bar, so they have easy access to the information that matters most to them.  

“These enhancements to our app are further examples of how we’re continuing to leverage data and technology to personalize and humanize consumer electronics like nobody else can,” said Brian Tilzer, Chief Data, Analytics and Technology Officer at Best Buy in a statement. “Our customers have unique needs and preferences, and our goal is to inspire the discovery of amazing new technology and ensure it truly enriches their lives, all in the most relevant, seamless way possible.”
