Ikea Makes As-is Furniture Available Online in the U.S.

Ikea is bringing is as-is used furniture section online in the U.S.

Just in time for Earth Day, Ikea is broadening the reach of its As-is resale offering by bringing it online. Ikea Family members can now browse the selection of gently used products at their local store and reserve items for in-store purchase and pickup.

While the As-is section has long been an Ikea mainstay, it has never been available online. The digital expansion follows on the launch of Ikea’s Buy Back & Resell service to 33 stores across the U.S., which has added to the assortment of As-is items by allowing Ikea Family members to sell back gently used furniture. Prior to the Buy Back & Resell program, most As-is furniture featured items that had been returned or were damaged in transit. In the past year, Ikea U.S. said that 3.1 million products were given a second life through the As-is department.

Ikea also announced that it is expanding the Buy Back & Resell program to more stores throughout the U.S., including locations in Bloomington, Minn.; Las Vegas; New Haven, Conn.; Renton, Wash.; and Jacksonville, Orlando, Tampa and Sunrise, Fla.

To further celebrate Earth Day, Ikea is running a number of campaigns and programs, including:

  • Offering 25% off all As-is items on April 22 and 23, 2023;
  • Hosting in-store sustainability events, workshops and the opportunity for Ikea Family members to participate in a raffle for a “Sustainable Home-kit” prize package valued at over $55 and a sustainable living scavenger hunt for a free Frakta bag; and
  • Offering customer deals and discounts on products that are sustainably sourced or made from natural materials or are energy-efficient or water saving.

“This Earth Month marks an exciting time for Ikea U.S. as we continue to make sustainable attainable,” said Javier Quiñones, CEO and Chief Sustainability Officer of Ikea U.S. in a statement. “As-is online joins our other services like Buy Back & Resell and the spare parts program that help our customers live a more sustainable life at home with a variety of ways to prolong the life of their furniture.”
