Continuing a steady drumbeat of store openings in 2026, Trader Joe’s has added nine stores in eight states to its “opening soon” list. The California-based supermarket, which operates in a total of 40 states, opened stores this year in Tucson, Ariz.; Hamden, Conn.; McKinney, Texas; and Miller Place, N.Y.
In most cases, Trader Joe’s did not reveal specific opening dates, but the retailer did provide the location of the stores slated to open:
- Tucson, Ariz. (opening May 29);
- Farmington Hills, Mich.;
- Syracuse, N.Y.;
- University Heights, Ohio;
- Sarasota, Fla.;
- Chicago;
- Quincy, Mass.;
- Yonkers, N.Y.
- Phoenix; and
- West Jordan, Utah.
In February 2026 Trader Joe’s had revealed the locations for five upcoming store openings. At that time, a Trader Joe’s spokesperson told Nexstar that new stores typically open three to six months after their locations are announced.
In May 2023 Trader Joe’s named Bryan Palbaum as CEO, replacing longtime Trader Joe’s CEO and Chairman Dan Bane, who was retiring.
