Shein Incubator Program Debuts Summit to Inspire Emerging Designers

Shein will host its first-ever SHEIN X Design Summit on April 1, inviting designers, artists and industry leaders to a day of content and networking at the City Market Social House in Los Angeles. SHEIN X, which launched in January 2021, is an incubator program that has grown to nearly 3,000 global designers and artists who have launched more than 25,000 original creations, earning more than $5 million in commissions from sales.

“Since we launched SHEIN X in 2021, thousands of entrepreneurs have been able to elevate their brands on the global stage through the program,” said George Chiao, U.S. President of Shein in a statement. “This year, we’re looking to onboard 1,000 more, and we’re excited to partner with visionaries and veterans from across the fashion industry to guide and support the next generation of designers and artists.”

The Summit will include panels featuring:

  • LaQuan Smith, Designer and Founder of LaQuan Smith;
  • Laura Kim, Co-Creative Director at Monse;
  • Maeve Reilly, celebrity stylist;
  • Gary Wassner, CEO, Hilldun Corp.;
  • Evett, Co-found of Act of Faith and Founder of EXO Cosmetics;
  • Racquel Natasha, Designer and Founder of Natasia Swimwear; and
  • Josephine Skriver, model and Co-founder of JOJA.

Reporting from Reuters earlier this month reveal that Shein is ready to raise approximately $2 billion in funding based on a $64 billion valuation, a one-third decline from a year ago. There’s widespread speculation that Shein is preparing for an IPO this year after shelving plans to go public in February 2022, although Reuters received no information directly from the company about its plans. In October 2022, Shein launched SHEIN Exchange, an integrated online peer-to-peer resale platform, in a move that was likely designed to polish its sustainability bona fides.
