Ikea, which debuted its Plan and Order Point store format in Dallas in November 2023, will add four additional locations this year, with more to follow. Smaller than traditional Ikea brick-and-mortar locations, these stores offer design consultations and serve as customer pickup points.
The new Ikea stores will be located in Austin, Texas (scheduled for summer 2024), the Atlanta metro area, and two locations in greater Los Angeles. Looking past 2024, Ikea is planning to open stores in Annapolis and Gaithersburg, Md.; Katy, Texas; and other locations to be named later.
The retailer also highlighted its sustainability accomplishments in 2023, including:
- The U.S. launch of its As-is online service in April, which allows Ikea Family members to shop for gently used products;
- Expansion of its Buy Back & Resell service to additional stores;
- Opening ultra-fast EV chargers at several stores, with plans to install a total of 500 public chargers and 300 fleet chargers in coming years;
- Contributing more than $2.5 million in retail value of in-kind and financial donations to 280 different nonprofits; and
- Advocating for legislation that aligns with Ikea’s values, including the Climate Corporate Data Accountability Act in California, the Rest for Marriage Act, Equality Act, and the Stop Tip-overs of Unstable, Risky Dressers on Youth (STURDY) Act.
