Blank Street

Small-format coffee startup Blank Street tapped the Brooklyn-based architecture and design firm Colberg Architecture to design its new brick-and-mortar location in Brooklyn’s Cobble Hill neighborhood.

Launched in August 2020 by Vinay Menda and Issam Freiha, Blank Street focuses on micro-footprint locations — a mix of mobile street carts and brick-and-mortar spaces that average approximately one-quarter the size of an average café.

Given the smaller space, a smart layout was key, said Jai Lott, VP of Product and Customer Experience at Blank Street in a statement. “We’ve always handled the architecture and design of our locations on our own, but when we decided to open a brick-and-mortar shop in beautiful Cobble Hill, we knew we needed to kick things up a notch,” Lott said, adding that Colberg Architecture helped create a comfortable space with a welcoming, customer-friendly aesthetic and contemporary, clean design.
