Guess has named Carlos Alberini CEO and Director of the company. He will replace Victor Herrero, who is resigning from the retailer effective Feb. 2. Additionally, Paul Marciano has agreed to remain as Chief Creative Officer at the request of the Board of Directors, despite planning to retire in January 2019 following an investigation into alleged sexual misconduct that surfaced in June 2018.
Alberini was formerly President and COO of Guess from 2000 to 2010, and is currently Chairman and CEO of Lucky Brand. He also has served as Co-CEO of Restoration Hardware.

“I am very excited to have Carlos coming back as CEO at Guess,” said Maurice Marciano, Chairman of the Board of Guess. “He was instrumental in building the international business in Europe and Asia during his 10-year tenure with the company.”
In July 2018, Guess and Paul Marciano entered into non-confidential settlement agreements to resolve the claims of five individuals, paying an aggregate total of $500,000 to avoid the cost of litigation. The allegations first became public when model Kate Upton accused Marciano of sexual misconduct at a photo shoot in 2010.
Lucky Brand will create a temporary Office of the CEO to oversee operations until permanent leadership is found. The team will consist of three people:
- Nigel Kershaw, CFO;
- Mike Relich, COO; and
- Lexi Tawes, Acting Chief Product Officer.
